Artemisia Blackwood (née Black) was a disowned, half-blood member of the Black family. Due to this, she developed a hatred towards muggles.

Biography[]

Artemisia Black's mother was part of the pure-blood supremacist Black family and so when she had a dalliance with a muggle man that resulted in Artemisia, Artemisia was ostracized and disowned by the Black family. As a result, Artemisia blamed her muggle father for this ostracization.

When she started to attend Hogwarts, she met a muggle-born student, Eunon Wood. Despite this, she didn't blame him for his heritage, viewing Eunon as an unwilling, innocent victim of muggle impurity. With Eunon likewise having a contentious relationship with muggles via his intolerant parents, Eunon and Artemisia grew close. Artemisia had a major influence not just on Eunon's growth but also his descent into darkness as the two fed on each other's disdain for their muggle heritage.

The two eventually wed, though rather oddly had invited their muggle families to the wedding. Eunon's family in particular would have avoided it altogether if not for the rumors of Artemisia's large dowry, which unbeknownst to the muggles, was really just a single gold medallion that was bewitched to look like a pile of gold.

To celebrate their union, Eunon and Artemisia combined their last names into "Blackwood" and Eunon showed off what he considered his greatest work: a magnificent maze with riches hidden within. He then invited the wedding guests to venture in, but it's said that while the magical attendees sensed something about Eunon and avoided going in, others did enter the maze, never to return. Over the years, as many as a thousand local muggles would meet their end within this cursed maze, lured by the promise of riches.

Sometime later, the couple welcomed a baby girl, Lysandra, but as a twist of fate, it turned out she was a squib. Artemisia and Eunon viewed their daughter as a disappointment, causing a lot of frustration between them and their daughter. This all came to a head one day when Lysandra was 16. After one particularly bad fight, Lysandra went and reported her mother to some muggle witch hunters who then came for Artemisia and burned her at the stake.
