Hogwarts Legacy Wiki

Avada Kedavra, also known as the Killing Curse, is an Unforgivable Curse in Hogwarts Legacy.

The Player has the option to learn this curse from Sebastian Sallow after the final mission in his questline, In The Shadow of the Relic.

Avada Kedavra can also be used in the Dark Arts Battle Arena, even if the player has not learned it in the main game.

Description[]

Kills enemies instantly.

Uses[]

As described in the novels and seen in the movies - Avada Kedavra instantly kills almost any regular enemy, regardless of health or level. This spell is useful for one-shotting tough enemies, especially if one is under-levelled and encounters a tough opponent. Avada Kedavra will break Shield Charms, regardless of colour. It will also permanently defeat Animagi in their beast form (depleting an Animagus' health in their beast form through other means will revert them back to human form).

Through upgrades, Avada Kedavra can be effective at taking down multiple enemies at once by cursing them beforehand.

Avada Kedavra is ineffective against Inferi (due to them being already dead), and Pensieve Guards (since they are not alive). It can still apply the Cursed status on them. Avada Kedavra will also not instantly kill multi-stage bosses (enemies with segmented healthbars), though they will still be damaged by the curse.

Upgrades[]

Avada Kedavra has the following upgrades:

Avada Kedavra Mastery[]

Unlocked by spending Talent Points in the Dark Arts Section. Killing an enemy with Avada Kedavra will kill all cursed enemies. The player's primary target does not have to be cursed for this to take effect. This effect only works on targets affected by Avada Kedavra.

Curse Sapper[]

Unlocked by spending Talent Points in the Dark Arts Section. Defeating a cursed enemy will restore some of the player character's health.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike most spells in the Wizarding World, Avada Kedavra has its origins in Aramaic instead of Latin. It translates to "let it be destroyed".
  • Avada Kedavra is the last of the Unforgiveable Curses the player will have the chance to learn.
  • Avada Kedavra has the longest cooldown of any spell, at 90 seconds.
  • In-game, human enemies will panic briefly when they witness the player using Avada Kedavra.
  • Both allies and enemies will occasionally comment on the player's use of Avada Kedavra, when it is cast in their presence.
