In the Shadow of the Study is Sebastian Sallow's second relationship quest in Hogwarts Legacy.

"It seems the Cruciatus Curse is our only way forward. Sebastian needs to convince Ominis to cast the curse."
- Wait for Sebastian to talk to Ominis
"Ominis refused to cast the curse. I need to discuss with Sebastian what to do next."

"We used the Cruciatus Curse to open the door, finally making it inside. Now, it's time to search this place."

- Search Slytherin's Scriptorium
"I found a mysterious book in Slytherin's Scriptorium. It may hold the answers that Sebastian is looking for. I should give it to him."
- Give the book to Sebastian
"I gave the book to Sebastian and he seems hopeful. We got what we came for, now it's time to leave."
- Leave the Scriptorium
"Now that we've left the Scriptorium, Ominis seems determined to stop Sebastian from going further down this path and asked him never to do this sort of thing again."

Conclusion[]
"I convinced Ominis to help Sebastian and me to enter Slytherin's Scriptorium. We had to wind our way through foreboding corridors, overcoming multiple barriers. Eventually, we came to a door that would only open if one would cast Crucio on another. Now we know why Noctua Gaunt failed to make it through: she went on this journey alone. Ominis refused to cast it.

- "However, I agreed to let Sebastian cast Crucio on me. I hope I never experience such pain again. We finally reached the Scriptorium, where I found an old spellbook of Salazar Slytherin's. I gave it to Sebastian, who hopes it holds some answers for him. Only time will tell."

- "Sebastian taught me the curse, however, and agreed to let me cast on him. I'm not sure how I feel about performing that bit of Dark Magic. - Crucio (optional)
If you decline the chance to learn Crucio and change your mind later, you can learn it by talking to Sebastian in the Undercroft.
Notes[]
- The entrance is opened by casting Incendio or Confringo on the three nearby braziers.
- Once past the entrance, Reparo must be cast on a pile of rubble to reveal a clue for the Serpent Door.
- Metal gates marked with symbols are opened by selecting the symbols on a nearby Slytherin Lock; two of the locks are on the opposite side of a wall from their gate. If the correct combination is not set within 15 seconds, the lock's snake will strike, inflicting a moderate amount of damage.
- Noctua Gaunt's Notes 01, 02, 03, 04, and 05 of 05 can be found at various points along the way to the Scriptorium.
- If Sebastian casts Crucio it will deplete most of your health, but there are no further dangers during this quest.
- Slytherin's Spellbook can be found on Salazar's desk at the centre of the Scriptorium.
- The Revelio page Salazar Slytherin's Scriptorium can be found near Salazar's desk.
- Slytherin's Diary Entry can be found on a small desk on the Scriptorium's upper level.
- The exit is between a pair of deformed statues on the upper level. It can be used to reenter the Scriptorium later.
