Rowland Oakes was a metal trader in the late 19th century in Hogwarts Legacy.
Biography[]
From a young age, Rowland knew he wanted to be a metal trader and in turn developed an appreciation for goblin culture and learned Gobbledegook. As an adult, he was able to make his dream a reality and became well known in the goblin community for his metal trading. After his sibling and their partner passed away, leaving his 5-year-old niece Adelaide an orphan, he took her in and did his best to take care of her. When Adelaide started attending Hogwarts, Rowland traveled a lot for work to pay for both her school expenses and his taste for finer things, while sending his niece an owl every week about how he was faring.
In 1890, Rowland decided to try and make contact with goblins that were part of Ranrok's Loyalists for business prospects, believing the money to be made was worth the risk. However, when the Loyalists amended their requests and Rowland asked questions about this, they grew angry, making Rowland uneasy. He was able to understand enough though that were after the metal that was suitable for drilling. When he decided to back out of the agreement, the goblins didn't take this well and kidnapped him, with Rowland finding himself in a locked cell and without his wand. He was held for so long that sometimes the goblins forgot he was there and would discuss matters within earshot, enough for Rowland to hear what caused Ranrok's hatred towards wizardkind.
The new fifth-year Hogwarts student, who Adelaide asked for help concerning her uncle, was able to find and free Rowland. Rowland expressed this thanks for this and noted his next business travels would be far away from the area.
