Trials of Merlin is a main quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Immediately after the conversation with Natty during [The Girl from Uagadou] has ended, the shout for help came from in front of the tent across the bridge near Lower Hogsfield.
Completing this quest unlocks Merlin Trials scattered around the Highlands.
Objectives[]
A woman needs help just across the water beyond the dock.
- Help the stranger
How dare these thieves harass people right in the shadow of Hogwarts? If they want a fight, I'll give it to them.
- Defeat the thieves
(Wave 1: 2 Ashwinder Scouts)
(Wave 2: 2 Ashwinder Scouts and 1 Ashwinder Duellist)
Now that we've fought off Rookwood's men, I should make sure the woman is unharmed.
- Speak with the stranger
Now, I'm going to obtain some Mallowsweet from Nora Treadwell's trunk outside of her tent.
- Get the Mallowsweet from the trunk
First, I need to activate the trial by dropping some Mallowsweet leaves on the stone swirl. Then I have to figure out the mystery of these vine-covered pillars.
- Solve Merlin's Trial
(After using the Mallowsweet, the bowls on all three pyres must be lit with Incendio. Each pyre starts sinking to the ground after being lit, so you must be quick to light them all before the trial resets itself.)
Mrs Treadwell instructed me to place mallowsweet onto these stone swirls and the strangest thing happened. I wonder what Merlin could have been hiding behind these puzzles.

Conclusion[]
Nora Treadwell and I defeated some Ashwinders who were looking for me near Lower Hogsfield. Afterwards, Mrs Treadwell showed me her research on something called the Merlin Trials and I was able to help her solve one of the puzzles. Now that we know how they work, I should try to solve the ones I encounter.
