Victor Rookwood is the criminal leader of the Rookwood Gang in Hogwarts Legacy.

Biography[]

Victor was a descendant of Charles Rookwood but by the time of Victor's father's era, the family had gone from being respectful, law-abiding citizens to running crime rings, though their family name still carried some weight in the magical community. As such, Victor was taught to bend the law when he could, and break it when necessary.

After his father's untimely and suspicious death, Victor took over the crime ring at 22 years old and quickly grew it, making it so successful in the area that other local criminals began to join up with his gang. He primarily focused on running an extortion racket, with his gang robbing travelers, smuggling in rare beasts, and demanding "protection" money from Hogsmeade's shopkeepers. Despite it being well known that Victor was behind all the crimes being committed, the Ministry still wouldn't take action against him, either due to his family's name or him being able to evade the law.

Working with Ranrok[]

When Ranrok's rebellion started, Victor formed an uneasy alliance with the goblin as they both had something the other desired, with Ranrok needing access to Rookwood's family castle and Victor wishing to have access to the darker forms of magic Ranrok had managed to get a hold of. After learning of several former professors who might have had a hand in hiding the repositories Ranrok was seeking, Ranrok's Loyalists and Victor began to excavate in Feldcroft at the former home of Isidora Morganach when some explosions rang out. One of the young residents of the area, Anne Sallow, ran to the area to check if anyone had been hurt. Not wishing for his involvement with Ranrok to become known, Victor cursed her, not only causing her such pain she could no longer attend school but also so she would not remember seeing Victor there.

Sometime after that, Victor learned that a witch, Miriam, had managed to find and take an odd container from the ruins of his family's castle. Believing that container would likely help them find one of the repositories, Victor spent months and countless Ministry favors trying to track it. However, when he finally learned a Ministry member, George Osric, had it and followed him, he failed to intercept it when George joined Professor Eleazar Fig and a new student as they got into a Hogwarts school carriage bound for the school. He later learned Ranrok had a controlled dragon attack the carriage but this resulted in not only losing the container but also whatever the student and Eleazar found at a vault in Gringotts that the container led them to.

Hunting down a student[]

Ranrok then tasked Victor with creating a distraction in Hogsmeade when the student went to the hamlet in the hopes of abducting the student then. Victor did so, sending one troll to lead away the main protectors so a second troll would then attack the student and their school friend by themselves, but the student in question somehow completely obliterated the troll. Victor then got into an argument with Ranrok over this in a nearby alley, realizing Ranrok was hiding something about the student, but Ranrok refused to say anything other than pointing out that Victor was useless to him if he couldn't help him get to the child. The goblin then cut the conversation short on seeing said student eavesdropping with their school friend before they ran off.

Victor then chased after the students with his second-in-command, Theophilus Harlow, into The Three Broomsticks, where he tried to act cordial to the proprietress Sirona Ryan while noting he was just after the one student. However, Sirona and her patrons quickly stepped in, preventing Victor and Theophilus from getting their hands on the student. Realizing they were outnumbered, Victor stood down, but not without noting to the student he'd eventually get them alone.

That fall though, the uneasy alliance he had with Ranrok was becoming more strained and the two argued at his family's castle over who was at fault for letting the container get away. As Victor remarked Ranrok was only there because he allowed the goblin to tunnel under his family's home, Ranrok countered he only kept Victor around because he was a descendant of a Keeper and thus, might be valuable to Ranrok at a later time, before reiterating their agreement: Ranrok would share the power he discovered but only if Victor could locate the repositories he hadn't found yet.
